Peigan Friends Along the river - Fish Rescue

Harley Bastien formed this group when he bought property along the river and noticed that there were thousands of dead fish in the canal once the water was turned off for winter. The first fish resue had only 10 people working, but now 16 years later the Alberta government's enviromental services and other groups are working together to save the fish. Over the years Harley's idea has saved 300,000 fish.

A group of people walk one kilometre up the canal with a twenty foot wide net. The crew pushes all the fish up the canal into shallow water. Volunteer of all ages come and help gather the fish.

Once the fish were caught they were put in buckets and hoiseted up.

Biologist would weigh, measure and itentify the speces and gender of each fish. The fish were put in large tank on a governemtn truck and driving about 50 metres to the river to be set free.

After two pushes Harley's wife Betty served lunch in the grass. She made chili, stew, corn and bannock. After lunch the group did two more pushes.

EXPLOSION...

The land was purchased by Choices Resources Ltd in 2002 and the demolition is a part of the restoration of the site. The Demolition was coordinated by Hazco Environmental Services and the actual explosion was created by Xtreme Mining & Demolition Inc.

So I won a contest

I won a writing contest a few months ago and the website has been updated for this year's winners including me. I entered while still in school so it says Western Academy of Photography all over the page so I think the school will be happy. Anyway, I think it might be a bit cheesy, but it got me $200 so I can't complain.
